A fast-growing lifestyle brand is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Technical Designer to join its apparel team in Washington, D.C.
This role is ideal for a technical expert with a strong background in garment construction and pattern making, paired with a passion for fashion and product quality. The Technical Designer will play a critical role in ensuring that designs are viable for production, participating in fittings, and maintaining the highest quality standards throughout the product development process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaboration:
Work closely with designers, manufacturers, and vendors to ensure product specifications meet feasibility and production requirements.
- Sample Fittings:
Lead sample fittings for multiple product categories, recommending fit and garment spec changes to deliver the best final product.
- Vendor Communication:
Liaise with factory vendors to ensure timely corrections and adherence to specifications.
- Product Evaluation:
Analyze designs, evaluate prototypes, and inspect finished products to ensure they meet quality standards and align with brand specifications.
- Quality Control:
Establish and maintain quality control standards, ensuring all products conform to the brand’s high expectations.
- Technical Oversight:
Stay current with garment development techniques and implement design changes or contingency plans as needed.
- Site Visits:
Visit manufacturing sites as necessary, reporting back on findings and ensuring alignment with production goals.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
3-5 years of experience as a Technical Designer or in a similar role within the fashion industry.
- Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of pattern making, garment construction, and practical experience with design software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and CAD.
- Problem-Solving:
Excellent problem-solving and negotiation skills, with the ability to justify design changes effectively.
- Organizational Skills:
Deadline-driven with a meticulous attention to detail and commitment to quality.
